Tips on Choosing an Affiliate Marketing Niche

Please, share this post with someone:

Choosing a profitable affiliate marketing niche is arguably one of the most important (and difficult) things you’ll do for your affiliate marketing career.

A niche is a more specialized field that appeals to a particular group of people. For example, a niche could be “sustainable shoes for hunting”  instead of just “shoes.”

The former will appeal to both earth lovers and hunters.

FYI, everyone should be an earth lover (just saying).

The latter, however, is very broad and will cover different kinds of footwear.

Some niches are evergreen while some are seasonal. The nature of your niche will determine if you can make money while sleeping or if you’ll need to pick a shift in your local restaurant.

In this article, you’ll know the evergreen niches and how to check for them. But first, why are niches important?

Importance of Niches

If niches weren’t important, there won’t be various departments in an office. Okay, so maybe that wasn’t a perfect analogy but you get the point.

Niches are important because you tend to:

  • Establish as an expert in your filed
  • Attract only those interested in your area and hence, have more people who are most likely to pay
  • Focus your energy on just one area

What are Evergreen Niches?

Evergreen niches are niches that don’t die. That is, they’ll always be in existence because their demand will always be high, or they’ll be available for a very long period of time.

According to multiple pieces of research, the most successful niches (in order) are:

  1. Fashion
  2. Sports and outdoors
  3. Heathy/wellness and beauty
  4. Travel
  5. Home and garden
  6. Computers and electronics
  7. Education and training
  8. Business
  9. Finance and insurance
  10. High-end and luxury stores
  11. Entertainment
  12. Department stores
  13. SaaS
  14. Auto and motor
  15. Gifts and flowers
  16. Books
  17. Baby and toddler
  18. Vision care
  19. Arts and photography

Look through these niches, does it surprise you? It shouldn’t.

However, these niches are very broad. For every broad niche, there are several subdomain niches. Read on, and you will understand what I mean.

1. Fashion affiliate marketing niche:

Fashion, for example, is a very broad niche. And it will always be evergreen because people will continue buying fashion items. Yes, people are that vain.

There are several subdomains under this. Two of the most common are Shoes and Jewelry. Furthermore, these two subdomains, depending on the brand (e.g. Tiffany or Louboutin), can also be a sub-niche under high-end and luxury stores and gifts niches.

So, if you have a high-end and luxury stores-niche blog, shoes you can sign up for a shoes or jewelry affiliate marketing program.

2. Finance and insurance niche:

What about finance and insurance? Who isn’t looking for more ways to get money or offset debts? Please don’t think of Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos: they don’t count.

There are many sub-niches too.

For example pet insurance, credit management, finance education, etc.

You can also see that finance education can fall under books and education too.

3. Wellness and Beauty niche:

This niche has been in existence since the beginning of time. If present-time beauty standards are any indication, then there has been a lot of beauty standards since the days of Adam and Eve.

Just as others, there are a lot of sub-niches. And they include hair, essential oils, beauty treatments, health supplements, herbs, etc.

And here is the good part: There are a lot of wellness and beauty affiliate marketing programs you can start with.

When looking for a niche, think of evergreen niches – niches that will always be there or will be there for a very long period of time.

For every broad affiliate marketing niche, there are several sub-niches.

Competitive Niches

Evergreen niches are competitive. Very competitive. Even their sub-niches are competitive.

I would love to tell you that adding your own spice and flavour will make it easier but that isn’t true.

If you are in a competitive niche, you’ll find out that it will be hard for you to rank and you will need to employ the use of many channels to get yourself out there. However, there’s hope.

When in a competitive niche, it is important for you to know your competitors. You should stalk them once in a while, and while it isn’t advisable to do exactly what they’re doing, you should have an idea of what they’re doing and implement it.

You will also need to be able to answer frequently asked questions regarding that niche. Your SEO and keyword planning skills should also be top-notch.

One way to do this is to use longer and more specific keywords.

For example, if you run a fashion blog, instead of writing ‘outfits for a first date’, you can use more long-chain keywords like “Outfits you can wear for your first date that will make him never leave you.”

When you choose your niche, the next thing to do is write down a list of products and services that can be sold in that niche.

For example, for a baby blog, you can have baby clothes, breast pumps, cribs, baby shower gifts, nursery ideas, etc. Then you choose affiliate programs that will suit your goals.

It is also important to note that even though high-end products mean more commission, it also means less volume. For a beginner, it is advisable to sell cheaper products for a higher volume of sales.

It is important for you to start from a sub-niche and then build it up to a broader niche.

How to Research for Good and Profitable Affiliate Marketing Niches

If you’ve been following, there are a lot of profitable niches. The only problem is that they’re broad and very competitive.

However, there’s a way to check for smaller sub-niches that are also profitable.

1.  Quora:

Let’s assume that you want to go into home and garden (because we now know it’s an evergreen niche).

Go to Quora and type ‘home and garden’ in the search bar.

Quora is a very good channel to know what is trending. It is a platform where questions and asked and answered. The number of questions asked as regards a niche tells you the niche that many are interested in.

2) Clickbank:

Clickbank is used to check if the niche you chose from your Quora result is monetizable.

The products are what you can sell as an affiliate marketer in that niche!

3) Google Adwords’ Keyword Planner:

This is what Google Adwords’ Keyword Planner is for.

Head on to Google Adwords’ Keyword Planner to search for new keywords. Then, click on ‘Get idea’.

What you see is the average monthly search for that keyword. So that gives you an idea of how much traffic you will get and how hard or easy ranking would be.

Then, click on ‘suggested bid’. This shows you the amount marketers are willing to pay for a single click. This shows you the high-end products in that niche and the amount of money you could possibly get as an affiliate marketer selling those products.

4) Start Selling Products:

Now that you know the products you can sell, the amount of traffic you could pull and the amount of money you can possibly get, it is time to start selling!

Sign up with an affiliate marketing program(s) to get products you can sell on your site.

Remember that to have a substantial profit you will need to have a lot of traffic to your site. So, go learn how to get traffic to your site now!

Affiliate marketing is a very good way to make passive income. However, you will need a profitable affiliate marketing niche to make your dream of making money while sleeping become a reality.
